Fee types and calculation

“Compensation” (also architect fee) is the payment for architect services. Among architects (planners), “cash outlays” made are termed by lawmakers as “charges and expenses” and SIA regulation 102 as “ancillary costs.” For this, the principal must make a “reimbursement of expenses.”

The calculation of architect fees is based either on the Swiss Code of Obligations (OR) and is either agreed to in concrete terms (flat-rate, time or percentage fee) or its amount is established by non-arrangement or by acceptance of SIA order 102 and calculated according to the SIA accepted criteria such as time, costs, flat-rate or global fee. Where the time element with hourly rates is the central point for fees based on OR, the SIA tariffs are based on formulas and oriented on the vested interest of the construction volume.
